“Kid, you’re going to starve.”

When I told my father I wanted to become a writer, he said only five words: “Kid, you’re going to starve.”

To our mutual relief, he was wrong.

Over my rewarding 25-plus-year career I’ve written everything from feature articles and radio spots to award-winning video scripts, ad campaigns, and web content.

But no matter the assignment, I’ve learned that great content always boils down to one thing: storytelling.

“To survive you must tell stories.”  — Umberto Eco

Storytelling has been central to human culture since language first emerged. For millennia, stories have connected us to our past, given us hope for the future, shaped our faith, stoked our fears.

Stories are powerful because they can turn ideas into action. That’s why it’s so encouraging to see more people (and companies) paying attention to the stories they tell.

As a writer, it’s my privilege to help make those stories more compelling and more effective.

Here’s my story.
